Gangavva the star of My Village Show, a YouTube channel with 1.7 million+ subscribers and counting. The channel was started in 2012 by Gangavva son-in-law Srikanth Sriram, a filmmaker. A team of nine, including writers, editors, and camerapeople, create comedic sketches about village culture and rural family life. decided to include Gangavva in one of the episodes.
For the uninitiated, Gangavva is a YouTube sensation who shot to fame with My Village Show. (the same show that hit international news headlines for the most innovative #KikiChallenge last year) Seeing the response and views the channel garners whenever Gangavva was featured, Srikanth Sriram, the mind behind My Village Show decided to dedicate a special show with her. In this show, Gangavva is a newsreader and the viewers are loving her ‘local’ news reporting. The episode turned out to be such a hit, Srikanth Sriram realized they might be on to something.
The My Village Show Youtube channel kept bringing Gangavva back for special episodes and soon, realized people really liked her and enjoyed her performances. Soon, her videos started getting major viewership, so Srikanth Sriram and the boys decided to run a special segment only featuring Gangavva, where she rallied local news, in her uncorrupted village dialect. Gangavva screen presence and delivery on-screen, that a number of her skits have Trending #1 on Youtube gone viral on social media over time.
Gangavva Life Story:
The 60-year-old Milkuri Gangavva was a farmer in Lambadipally, a village situated 200 kilometers from Hyderabad. As a farmer, she worked at tilling the ground, sowing seasonal produce (ranging from rice to turmeric) in the 200-acre land, and then reaping the harvest. At other times she worked on her friends’ and neighbors’ farm as barter labor to support her family of five single-handedly. With an alcoholic husband and three children who needed to be taken care of, Gangavva gave it her all to ensure her children see a better tomorrow. All this, until she appeared on a YouTube show.

Gangavva set out on this journey to explore her hidden talents.
